Modern Slavery Statement

Our approach to addressing modern slavery and human trafficking in our business and supply chain.

Ref 019 · 2023/24

Financial year 2023/24

This is the supplied statement for 2023/24, dated November 2023. It is published here as a historical statement and is not presented as a statement for the current financial year.

This statement is made pursuant to section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 and sets out the steps that the Site Supply Group of Companies has taken and is continuing to take to address modern slavery and human trafficking within its business and supply chain.

Our approach

Modern slavery encompasses slavery, servitude, human trafficking and forced labour. The Site Supply Company has a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery. We are committed to acting ethically, with integrity and transparency, and to putting effective systems and controls in place to safeguard against modern slavery in our business and supply chain.

Our business

We supply workwear, high-visibility clothing, corporate clothing, embroidered and printed branded clothing, PPE and site equipment. Our main focus is the North West of England, while serving customers throughout the British Isles. The source statement records more than 500 active customers at the time it was prepared.

Areas of risk

Our supplier base is identified as a key risk area. Supplier vetting and on-site quality assurance checks are used to help mitigate this risk.

Our policies

  • Anti-slavery policy: explains our position, how employees can recognise possible instances of modern slavery and where to seek help.
  • Recruitment policy: includes eligibility-to-work checks for all employees to help safeguard against trafficking and forced labour.
  • Ethical Trading Policy: sets out expectations for working conditions and ethical employment practices.

Our suppliers

We operate a supplier policy and maintain a preferred supplier list. Before approving suppliers, our due diligence includes online checks for convictions relating to modern slavery and, where possible, on-site audits of working conditions.

Our anti-slavery policy forms part of supplier contracts. Suppliers are required to confirm that their operations do not contradict it.

We require suppliers to confirm that they have taken steps to eradicate modern slavery in their business, hold their own suppliers to account and pay employees above the national minimum or national living wage applicable in the country of operation.

We may terminate a supplier contract if instances of modern slavery come to light.

Training

The source statement provides for training for procurement and buying teams so that they can understand the signs of modern slavery and what to do if they suspect it within the supply chain. It does not report completed training.

Monitoring effectiveness

The source statement identifies reports received through whistleblowing arrangements and staff communication channels, including concerns raised by employees, the public or law enforcement agencies, as an indicator used to monitor effectiveness.

The absence of reports alone does not demonstrate that modern slavery is absent from a business or supply chain.

Approval information in the source

The source records initial Board approval on 1 April 2016 and names D. McKeever, Operations Director, in the signature field dated November 2023. It gives November 2024 as the next review date.
