Care instructions are part of the product specification. Following them helps preserve appearance and, for protective clothing, the features the wearer relies on.
Read the label before washing
Check temperature, detergent restrictions, drying and ironing instructions. Printed or embroidered garments may have additional care requirements. Avoid applying one wash routine to every item in a mixed uniform.
Inspect as well as clean
Look for damage, contamination, failed fastenings and deterioration in reflective material. A garment can need replacement before its stated maximum wash count is reached. Report defects rather than relying on appearance alone.
Store kit properly
Use clean, suitable storage and follow any restrictions on sunlight, heat or chemicals. Allow items to dry as directed before storage. Keep contaminated equipment separate where the workplace procedure requires it.
Plan replacements
Make the replacement route clear to wearers. Record recurring problems so future buying decisions can address them. Repairs or alterations to PPE should only be made where the manufacturer’s guidance permits them; an ordinary sewing repair may change protective performance.
